The idea for this book came from listening to some of my favorite piano literature. Enchanted by the absolutely beautiful, lyrical melodies of Chopin’s Opus 28, I found myself wishing my own intermediate students could enjoy them now, and not just the handful of Preludes that are more accessible for students. As I edited these Preludes with intermediate hands and minds, it was my desire to preserve their full length, in the original keys, and with as much of Chopin’s original markings as possible. I hope you agree the result is a celebration of Chopin’s original work, but now accessible for the intermediate student!

Be Thou My Vision, arranged by Rick Robertson, is a worshipful arrangement of the beloved hymn. It is one of the arranger’s favorite hymns, and is suitable for service or recital use.

An elegant piano solo interpretation of the first movement of Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto in A Minor (RV. 356). This abridged arrangement by Jennifer Eklund will allow intermediates and up to work on lyrical phrasing, dynamics, and rubato. The approximate run time of this solo is 2:30.

Hope, composed by Rick Robertson, is a lyrical solo for intermediates with a mature sound. It is a “song without words” in a loose rondo form. It is suitable for recitals and worship services.

Calm, composed by Jenny Walker, is a peaceful meditative solo for intermediates. The left hand provides a gentle, rocking accompaniment, much of which is in the treble clef. The mood is fairly constant throughout and there is room for some rubato when the left hand reach increases towards the middle of the work.
