A hauntingly beautiful arrangement of Avinu Malkeinu (Our Father, Our King) arranged by Debbie Center. The blowing of the shofar, or ram’s horn, is an integral part of the services, announcing the new year to all. Often, the shofar is blown near a body of water. The cover features an Israeli shofar belonging to Debbie’s son, Joel. Debbie created the photograph at her lake home in Nevis, Minnesota.

The Sussex Carol (sometimes called “On Christmas Night All Christians Sing”) is a very popular carol in England. This arrangement by Jenny Walker, has a jaunty, 6/8 feel and is similar in style to “I Saw Three Ships”. It is a lovely, lilting carol with a joyous, rhythmic sway.

This is an original work by Jenny, depicting the journey made by a Troika, a Russian vehicle drawn by three horses over a snow-clad landscape. The dotted rhythm of right-hand notes gives a ragtime-like feel to the piece. The mood is cheeky and jovial, an intermediate-level thrill ride.

Snow Flurries, composed by Rick Robertson, is an early intermediate level lyrical solo. Pedal effects and mixed accents, including hemiola, add to the atmosphere. This is an excellent choice for recital or festival use.

This new lyrical solo from Ryan Chesser is perfect for sipping coffee at your window on wintry days. There are lots of opportunities here for expressiveness, rubato, and plenty of sparkly, crisp notes.

Walking On Air is a lively, jazzy showcase piece for the early intermediate level student of any age, composed by Lisa Donovan Lukas. This music is fun to play, and is an ideal and entertaining recital piece.
