Simply Chopin Nocturnes
The idea for this series came from listening to some of my favorite piano literature. Chopin was a master at creating absolutely beautiful, lyrical melodies, and I found myself wishing my own intermediate students could enjoy playing his music. This collection featuring, ten of Chopin’s Nocturnes, is the second book in this series, and is aimed at preserving as much of his original works as possible, while making them accessible for the intermediate student.
July is a ragtime solo for intermediate pianists composed by Sarah Reaser O’Brien. It is ideal study material for those who would enjoy historical rags but need a more manageable arrangement and hand span than those typically offer. There is syncopation throughout all of the three principle melodies with a steady quarter note accompaniment in the left hand for the majority of the piece.
Endearing Irish Charms
Endearing Irish Charms, arranged by Jennifer Eklund, is a medley of two familiar Irish tunes “Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms" and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” This intermediate solo provides ample opportunity to work on interpretation, rubato, and lyrical artistry.
Tango in D
Tango in D, composed by Jenny Walker, starts with a typical tango introduction followed by a precise, rhythmic accompaniment with a sustained melody taken by the upper right hand. The piece contains a certain cheeky-feel combined with the passion of a tango. This selection is ideal for intermediates.
