This is a free-flowing piece with elements taken from the Scottish folk song ‘Mairi’s Wedding’ which then develop into a unique melody which pervades the rest of the work. It starts innocuously, with some off-beat chords in the left hand whilst the right plays the tune and develops into a more regularly metered, dance section. The wedding gains momentum and an element of Irish cheek is heard throughout. A lovely piece for all to enjoy.
Rhapsodies and Reveries: Volume Two
Rhapsodies and Reveries Volume Two features eleven contemporary lyrical solos for intermediate pianists of all ages composed by Chrissy Ricker. Inspired by the sights and sounds of nature, these solos range in style from quiet and reflective to powerful and dramatic.
Captain Conrad’s Hornpipe
This hornpipe composed by Jenny Walker is a lively piece, depicting a jolly sea dance on the deck of a pirate ship. Captain Conrad is fictitious and is portrayed as a cheeky chap. The middle section is a smoother, minor feel, depicting the rolling waves as the ship becomes unsteady.
Prelude in E Minor
Prelude in E Minor, composed by Rick Robertson, is an intermediate level showcase solo in a neo-Baroque style. It is written in the style of Bach’s organ works as transcribed for piano by Ferruccio Busoni, and would make a good program opener for a developing pianist. Its minor key and somber sound also makes it suitable as a Halloween selection.
