Simply Chopin Preludes

Songbook arranged by Lisa Shoemaker

The idea for this book came from listening to some of my favorite piano literature. Enchanted by the absolutely beautiful, lyrical melodies of Chopin’s Opus 28, I found myself wishing my own intermediate students could enjoy them now, and not just the handful of Preludes that are more accessible for students. As I edited these Preludes with intermediate hands and minds, it was my desire to preserve their full length, in the original keys, and with as much of Chopin’s original markings as possible. I hope you agree the result is a celebration of Chopin’s original work, but now accessible for the intermediate student!

Simply Chopin Preludes is simply WONDERFUL! I have been working on the Prelude in F sharp major. It has been such a joy to learn. With guidance from my teacher, it is coming together. The videos are very helpful as well. Thank you, Lisa, for your effort to arrange this collection. God bless you, Carol

I have never liked the idea of teaching the so-called "easy" preludes as piecemeal pieces. I'm not against studying them, but in performance, I really think of them as an entire set, much like Schumann's Papillon or Carnaval. I really like these arrangements since they give a student, or even a teacher, a chance to play the entire set. I have not bought these yet, but will do so, and recommend them to some of my students who might like them.
