Dancing in Dreams

From elegant lyrical solos to upbeat fun-to-play solos, these showcase pieces are ideal for intermediates of all ages.
Yuletide Treasures features eleven holiday favorites arranged for late intermediates and beyond by Jennifer Eklund. This collection includes novelty arrangements from The Nutcracker as well as medleys of traditional holiday favorites and well-known classical melodies.
Chalumeau, composed by Rick Robertson is a late-intermediate level solo in a neo-Romantic lyrical style. It is inspired by the “chalumeau” register of the clarinet, with its low, rich tones (named after a reed instrument that preceded the clarinet). The melody lies close to the middle of the keyboard, and the accompaniment moves above and below it, giving an opportunity to work on voicing and balance.
Remember When, composed by Rick Robertson, is an intermediate level solo in a neo-Romantic ambient style. The opening section consists of harmonies divided between the hands, and a middle section adds some melodic interest. It is another of the composer’s favorites, is suitable for service playing, and is part of the Souvenirs songbook.
Day Is Done
Day is Done, composed by Rick Robertson, is an intermediate level solo in a neo-Romantic lyrical style. A slow-moving theme with harmonic richness contrasts with a middle section that presses forward, returning to the first theme for a conclusion. This is appropriate for recital or festival, in addition to worship services as a prelude or offertory.
Un Souvenir, composed by Rick Robertson, is a left-hand only intermediate solo in a neo-Romantic lyrical style. Besides the benefit as a “pupil saver” for pianists with right-hand injuries, it gives any performer the opportunity to work on balancing melody and accompaniment in the same hand, and use of pedal to tie the texture together. It is very effective in performance, and makes an excellent repertoire choice for a developing pianist.
