Music Theory for Guitar: Level One is the first entry in a comprehensive series of music theory workbooks for guitarists in which Amy Hite draws from her experience teaching the guitar and leading the Guitar Syllabus Committee with the Music Teachers’ Association of California, where she built an extensive guitar curriculum from the ground-up that included eleven graded levels of music theory.
In this volume you’ll begin by learning a wide range of subjects including: parts of the guitar, first position notes on the fretboard and the music staff, Whole steps and half steps on the fretboard and the music staff, basic rhythms, time signatures and counting, an introduction to sharps and flats, the C Major and a natural and harmonic minor scales, an introduction to intervals, basic music symbols and terminology.

About the author
Amy Hite
Amy Hite is a guitar teacher and classical guitarist in Temecula, CA. Amy graduated Magna Cum Laude with a master’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Fullerton, where she studied under David Grimes. She held an Associate Professor of Music position at Riverside City College and served as the chair of the Guitar Syllabus Committee for the Certificate of Merit™ program with the Music Teacher’s Association of California. Her Music Theory for Guitar workbook series was the winner of the Winter 2024 Pencraft Book Award in the category of Music. Amy enjoys composing and arranging music and creating comprehensive pedagogical materials for guitar students. She is also a certified yoga and Alexander Technique teacher.
