Tricks & Treats features eleven Halloween-themed showcase solos composed by Stacy Fahrion. Full of quirky harmonies, odd meters, and playful takes on folk melodies, these pieces will be a treat for intermediates of all ages at any time of the year!

Sideways Blues is a strange blues by Stacy Fahrion based on an eight-note scale containing these notes: E-F-G-A#-B-C-C#-D-E. Since it’s based only on that scale, most of the chords are not typical blues chords, although it follows a typical 12-bar structure. Students have the option to repeat measures 13-24 and improvise with the right hand over the chords that are already there.

Remember When is solo by Sara Tomlinson featuring warm, rich harmonies and a tender melody. The middle section features arpeggiated figures and melodic flourishes, expanding on the original theme. The piece concludes with a fond return of the A section in simplified form.

Reflection is a lyrical solo by Sara Tomlinson with a reflective quality. The piece is in 6/8 time in the key of A minor. The listener could easily get lost in the melody, which is supported by a hypnotic left-hand accompaniment.

Music Box is a lyrical solo by Sara Tomlinson in the key of A major. Much of the piece is written with both hands in the upper register, creating a light and airy feeling. The middle section gives the impression of the turning and spinning movement inside the music box. Listeners of all ages will enjoy the sounds and sentiments of the music box.

Chasing The Dream is an energetic, contemporary lyrical solo by Sara Tomlinson. The left-hand accompaniment creates a steady rhythmic force underneath the lyrical and driving melodies in this piece. This piece is suitable for intermediate students of all ages.
