I can hear the influence of "Christifori's Dream" in this one!

I assigned “Falling Leaves” to a middle school student this week and she just beamed and said, “That’s pretty!” (Her two older sisters felt left out, so they are each playing another piece from the “Impressions” book). I can tell that much will be gained from “Falling Leaves” – quiet thumb, balance of hands, voicing – for starters. It is going to be a lovely piece to play when the Fall season arrives and I am confident this young lady will be playing it beautifully by then. I also love the quotes you have on each song as well as the beautiful cover and presentation. . . Everything is so well done and thought out and the music is beautiful. Thanks, Jennifer for your thoughtful music and for helping us keep those teenage students interested! Heather Rathnau, NCTM Missouri City, TX

This song is a pleasure to play and to listen to. The left hand is very pattern based which makes it fairly easy to teach. That repeating pattern is perfect for expressing the idea of falling leaves. One of my students used this piece to create who own idea of falling leaves, improvising the right hand while using the left hand pattern, I loved it!

Falling Leaves provided a respite for my intermediates students this summer. Because it is a patterned piece, they learned it without difficulty and were able to focus on a gentle touch and voicing the melody. It provided the right “stretch” for my early intermediate adults and teens–they actually chose this piece every time I demonstrated it for them–even when the alternative was another appealing piece of music. This is a piece to have on hand whether the leaves are currently falling or not–I plan to have a couple of copies on my shelf on an ongoing basis. Thanks, Jenn, for another great composition!

My student loves “Falling Leaves.” She learned it over the course of two lessons, and she will play it in our fall recital. When I asked if she liked learning and playing Falling Leaves, her face lit up! She is especially glad that I assigned “a piece that uses the pedal.” This is a ‘keeper’ for sure.
