A Memory

Sheet Music composed by Rick Robertson

A Memory, composed by Rick Robertson is a wistful lyrical style solo for late beginners and up. It is very effective in performance, and the left-hand crossings add a point of interest and color. A middle section provides contrast in texture. This piece is part of the Kaleidoscope Volume 1 songbook.

I included this piece in a set of options I was giving one of my "difficult" students. She's difficult because, at 12yo, she only wants to play what she wants to play. Reading music is hard for her (she's a transfer student, so I didn't start her and don't know all her issues), especially bass clef. Currently, she's fixated on Disney -- playing the "easy" songs in lead sheet style (open 5th in bass, reading the chords above the staff) and trying to play the melody. Anyway, she was immediately hooked on this lyrical piece. And the LH is perfect for her level -- mostly easy, with a little challenge in the B section. This is the first piece I've assigned her that she's actually practicing! A win! I'm adding lots of Rick Robertson pieces to my wishlist.
